Within the boundaries of the Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois are some of the most scenic and productive waterways in the entire Midwest, and of the local fishing guides there is one especially noted for sharing his knowledge and love of these lakes, the fish that swim in them, and the tactics that will catch them.
About Al Nutty
A lifelong resident of Southern Illinois, Al Nutty is best known as the original musky guide on Kinkaid Lake, but is equally adept at catching the region's other game fish. More comfortable outdoors than in, Al was part owner in a sporting goods store, a tournament angler, and has traveled extensively throughout the U.S. & Canada in pursuit of big fish.
Well accomplished as a guide for muskies, Al has spent the last 30 years pursuing big game fish, and can lead you to some of the finest farm pond, strip pit, lake, and river fishing in Southern Illinois for bluegill, crappie, largemouth bass, hybrid white bass, stripers, rainbow trout, walleye and catfish.

About Kinkaid Lake
Kinkaid Lake is formed among the wooded hillsides and limestone bluffs of the Shawnee National Forest, making this 2750 acre lake one of the Midwest's most scenic waterways. With over 90 miles of shoreline, water depths to 75 feet, and an abundance of gizzard shad and spotted suckers, Kinkaid’s game fish grow quickly due to the nearly year-round growing season.
Natural strain muskellunges were first stocked at Kinkaid in 1985, and the lake began producing 40" fish in 1990, after just five years of growth! Each year, this fishery has continued to improve, and the upcoming season promises to be the best yet! Lots of big fish are caught here every year...what are you waiting for?
In November of 1998, construction of a spillway retention barrier was completed; this device, designed to keep the muskies in the lake should the waterway overflow the dam, offers the added benefit of keeping big walleye, bass, crappies, & white bass from escaping... in short, a benefit to all who fish these waters.
Kinkaid Lake is the perfect place to start (and finish) your musky fishing season, 'cause the action begins in January and lasts well into December, taking just a couple of months off in the summer to fish for walleye...
